Recap: Stevenson ends Del Val's MAC run

The Mustangs did what 54 previous Middle Atlantic Conference opponents could not, and that was defeat Delaware Valley.

Delaware Valley had an eight-season winning streak snapped, Ursinus moved to 3-0, Calvin improved to 2-1 and Centenary (La.) got its first win since reviving the program as part of Division III football action on Sept. 21, 2024.

Daryus Henderson blocked an extra point attempt with 5:13 to play and it was just enough to keep Stevenson in front as the Mustangs defeated Delaware Valley 21-20. It was the first conference loss in MAC play for the Aggies since Oct. 22, 2016, when Stevenson shut Del Val out 19-0.

With the game tied in the third quarter, Stevenson got a stop on a fourth-and-2 as Gavin Shields stopped quarterback Louie Barrios IV short at the Stevenson 24 with 6:01 left. The Mustangs later took the lead for good with 7:19 left in the fourth when Seth Parker rushed up the middle for a 16-yard score and a 21-14 lead. Del Val (2-1) scored on its next possession as Rob McConnell hit Nahsir Morgan with a 50-yard touchdown pass, but Henderson's block preserved the margin.

Tony Holden ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries and the Ursinus defense held Rowan to 62 yards passing and 112 yards overall in a 58-14 win. Jalen Bradford ran for a touchdown and threw for another in the win as the Bears improved to 3-0. Ursinus is the only undefeated team remaining in the Centennial Conference. It's Rowan's first loss of the season.

Anderson got on the board first midway through the first quarter and led 6-0, but Calvin ripped off the next 66 points and the Knights' third game resulted in their second win as they defeated the Ravens 66-12. Calvin limited the Ravens to 110 total yards and had four players complete passes, 10 players catch them and 11 players carry the ball in the win. Chase Bradman led the way on 13-for-20 passing for 175 yards and three touchdowns.

Jack Gavin returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown and Zin'Tavious Smith ran for two second half touchdowns as Centenary (La.) pulled away to a 36-17 win at Austin College. Kody Fuentes complete nine of 12 passes for 117 yards amd Smith ran for 135 yards and the two scores. It's the first win for the Gents since the 1940s.

Hobart scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter on the way to a 27-12 home win against Moravian. The Statesmen produced 152 of their 364 yards on the day in the final 15 minutes. Trailing 12-7 entering the fourth quarter, Hobart got an early stop and the Statesmen offense responded with a quick strike. On third and 10 from the Moravian 34, senior linebacker Vincent Giordano sacked the Greyhounds' quarterback for a 9-yard loss. After a 52-yard punt, Hobart took over at its own 23. On first down, Johnny Colombi connected with Crowell on a fade route at the Moravian 43, from there the 6-4, 200-pounder took it to the house for a 77-yard touchdown. The Statesmen added a 1-yard TD run by E.J. Taylor and a 25-yard Colombi to Ahmad Crowell touchdown down the stretch to seal the victory.

Trinity (Texas) held off Washington & Lee as the Tigers defeated the Generals 16-10 as part of the ODAC-SAA Challenge. That challenge was won by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, as Hampden-Sydney, Guilford, Bridgewater and Shenandoah picked up wins for the ODAC and Berry and Trinity got wins for the Southern Athletic Association. Carter Sido passed for career-highs of 264 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to sophomore wide receiver Ethan Dowdy, who had career-highs of nine receptions for 101 yards and the four TDs, as Hampden-Sydney rallied in the second half for a 38-34 come-from-behind win against Centre. Freshman running back Fain Barton added a career-high 103 yards rushing while making his first collegiate start for the host Tigers (2-1), who trailed the visiting Colonels (2-1) 20-17 at halftime, before outscoring them 21-14 in the second half.
