Eight BW Football Student-Athletes Named to 2025 CSC Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Eight Baldwin Wallace University football student-athletes have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.

To qualify for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must a sophomore academically and athletically, having a 3.50 grade point average (GPA) or higher, and must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games.

Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference wide receiver Xavier Balson (North Olmsted), senior defensive lineman Grahm Dixon (Wooster), junior All-American linebacker Nolan Hartsel (Lodi/Northwestern), junior defensive lineman Daniel Hopkins (Norton), junior offensive lineman Sam Jackson (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark), junior All-OAC defensive back Kyle Langenbruner (Newark/Newark Catholic), junior All-OAC running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and junior All-OAC offensive lineman Nick Lulow (Painesville/Riverside) were all named to the Academic All-District team.  The eight now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be announced on January 27.

Balson, who garners his first career accolade, carries a 3.94 grade point average in sport management. This season, he appeared in nine games at wide receiver after playing his first two seasons at quarterback.  Balson was second on the team with 452 yards on 31 catches with five touchdowns.  He earned his first career All-OAC selection when he was named to the second team. For his career, Balson has appeared in 18 games.  He has completed 12-of-14 passes for 96 yards.  Balson has rushed for 195 yards on 28 carries with three touchdowns.  He has caught 31 passes for 452 yards with five touchdowns.  Off the field, Balson is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree and a Dean's List student.

Dixon, who earns his first career honor, carried a 3.73 grade point average in accounting and business administration.  This season, he appeared and started in all 10 games at right guard. Dixon helped guide the offense to rank second in the OAC in points-per-game (41.1), rushing yards-per-game (231.9) and total yards-per-game (438.9). For his career, Dixon has appeared in 15 games after transferring to BW after his sophomore season.  Off the field, he is an Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

Hartsel, who garners his second career accolade, carries a 3.97 grade point average in accounting and finance.  This season, he led the OAC in tackles with a career-high 96, including recording a career-best tying 19 in two games.  Hartsel also recorded six tackles for a loss of 19 yards, three quarterback hurries, one sack, one interception and one pass breakup.   He was named the OAC Gene Slaughter Most Outstanding Linebacker Award winner as well being named to the All-OAC first team, D3football.Com All-American second team, D3football.com All-Region 4 first team and the OAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 20 after his first 19 tackle performance in a victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.). For his career, Hartsel has appeared in 30 games and has tallied 161 tackles, including 17 for loss, 6.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception. Off the field, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team selection, Dean's List student and a member of the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society.

Hopkins, who earns his first career honor, carries a 3.94 grade pointy average in sport management.  This season, he appeared in all 10 games and recorded a career-high 21 tackles, including one for a loss of three yards, first career quarterback sack and first career forced fumble.   For his career, Hopkins has played in 21 games and has recorded 38 tackles.  Off the field, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student and a member of the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society.

Jackson, who garners his first career accolade, carries a 3.95 grade point average in adolescent and young adult education.  This season, he appeared and started in all 10 games at right tackle.  Jackson helped guide the offense to rank second in the OAC in points-per-game (41.1), rushing yards-per-game (231.9) and total yards-per-game (438.9).  For his career, Jackson has appeared in 11 games.  Off the field, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree and Dean's List student.

Langenbruner, who earns his first career honor, carries a 3.71 grade point average in sport management and finance.  This season, he appeared in nine games at free safety., Langenbrunner recorded career-highs in tackles with 42, pass breakups with five, tackles for loss with two and his first interception.  He was an All-OAC honorable mention selection. For his career, Langenbrunner has appeared in 24 games and has recorded 87 tackles, 10 pass breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble.  Off the field, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree.

Linberger, who garners his second career accolade, carries a 3.92 grade point average in pre-allied health and pre-physical therapy. This season, he appeared and started in all 10 games, Linberger was second in the OAC in touchdowns with a career-high 14 and third in the league in yards and attempts with career-bests of 1,133 and 187.  He was a an All-OAC first team selection.  For his career, Linberger has rushed for 2,207 yards on 427 carries with 21 touchdowns.  Off the field, he is two Academic All-OAC honoree, 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team selection and Dean's List student.

Lulow earns his second career honor, carries a 3.93 grade point average in finance.  This season, he appeared in and started in all 10 games at left guard.  Lulow helped guide the offense to rank second in the OAC in points-per-game (41.1), rushing yards-per-game (231.9) and total yards-per-game (438.9).  For his career, Lulow has appeared in 28 games.  Off the field, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team selection and Dean's List student.

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2025 campaign with an overall record of 8-2 and an OAC slate of 6-2.
