WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College football team (3-2, 3-0) handled the visiting Westminster Titans (3-2, 2-1) in a 24-7 result. Both teams entered the game as the two remaining undefeated teams in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
Kellan Stahl (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) powered the W&J offense completing 22 of 31 passes for 321 yards and two total touchdowns. Andrew Sharp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the rushing room with 17 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown. Sharp also three passes out of the backfield for 49 yards. Joey DeSabato (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) led the receiving room with four catches for 78 yards.
Dante DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) picked up his fifth interception in the past three games with one pick along with two tackles. Brock Sherman (Copley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was the tackle leader with 11 total on the day. Antoine Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) led the team in tackles for loss and sacks with 1.5. Nathaniel Kadosh-Harris (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) also had 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
The Presidents came out firing on all cylinders, scoring 17 first half points. Stahl found John Peduzzi (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Christian Academy) for a 13-yard touchdown reception to open the scoring in the first quarter.
Deven Wyandt (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) made a 23-yard field goal to put the Presidents up 10-0 with 9:55 remaining in the second quarter. Stahl pulled a two-yard rushing touchdown on the two-yard line to put the Presidents up 17-0 heading into the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Westminster found its stride with backup quarterback Quentin Goode as he led the Titans down the field for a 99-yard touchdown drive in the fourth. W&J immediately answered with a touchdown drive of their own as Sharp scampered in for a seven-yard rushing touchdown to reach the final score of 24-7.
W&J football returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 18) on the road at Saint Vincent. Opening kickoff is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
