RMC Posts 63-0 Win over GC

ASHLAND, Va. – The Yellow Jacket offense amassed more than 600 yards of total offense, including 475 yards on the ground, as Randolph-Macon registered a 63-0 ODAC victory over Guilford on Saturday afternoon. Randolph-Macon is ranked 25 in the AFCA poll.

How it Happened:

  • The Quakers won the coin toss and deferred. The Yellow Jackets drove 75 yards in seven plays, as senior quarterback Dante Casciola (Charlotte, N.C./Weddington) took it in from three yards out to give RMC a 7-0 lead four minutes into the contest. Senior tailb7 ck Kwesi Clarke (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) returned to action and had four carries on the drive for 30 yards.
  • The RMC defense forced a punt and took over on its own 20. It took the Yellow Jackets six plays to go 80 yards, aided by a 45-yard from Casciola to junior wide receiver Jason Moore (Craven County, N.C./Havelock). Junior running back DJ James (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) scored from five yards out as the lead grew to 14-0 with 5:47 left in the first period.
  • Late in the first quarter, senior cornerback Coleton Payne (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) intercepted a pass at the RMC 42, his third pickoff of the season. James found the end zone from seven yards out as the Yellow Jackets led 21-0 after one period of play.
  • Led by freshman quarterback Ryley Justus (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), RMC would drive 87 yards early in the second quarter. Junior running back Mitchell Johnson (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) took it in from 23 yards out to make it 28-0 with 10:41 left until halftime.
  • Three plays later, freshman cornerback Collin Farmer (Waldorf, Md./North Point) picked off a pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown as the margin grew to 35-0 with nine minutes to go in the first half.
  • James added a 46-yard TD run later in the second period to push the advantage to 42-0.
  • The Quakers drove to the RMC 11 but missed a 28-yard field goal attempt as time expired to keep it 42-0 at intermission.
  • Guilford picked up a pair of first downs on its first possession of the third period before freshman safety Caden Bradford (Chesapeake, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk) intercepted a pass and returned it to the RMC 35. Sophomore quarterback Will Cranford (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) scored from one yard out to push the lead to 49-0.
  • Junior running back Jaxon Jones (New Hanover, N.C./Eugene Ashley) had a 45-yard scoring run late in the third quarter to give the home team a 56-0 advantage.
  • The Yellow Jackets put together a 15-play, 88-yard scoring drive that took more than nine minutes off the clock, as senior running back DJ Cone (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) scored from one yard out midway through the fourth period to make the final 63-0.

By The Numbers:

  • The Yellow Jackets had 52 carries for 475 yards and eight rushing touchdowns, all season highs. James rushed nine times for 129 yards and three scores. Jones had 75 yards on four carries, while Johnson had 74 yards on four rushes.
  • Casciola completed two of four passes for 82 yards. Justus went 5 for 9 for 51 yards.
  • Senior wide receiver Jack Landis (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) was the only Yellow Jacket with multiple catches. He had two receptions for nine yards.
  • Senior linebacker Jackson Deaver (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford) was tied for the team lead with three tackles. He has two tackles for loss for minus-4 yards.

For The Record:

  • RMC has won 20 consecutive ODAC contests, dating back to the 2021 season.
  • The Yellow Jackets have won the past nine meetings with the Quakers. RMC has outscored GC 133-14 over the past two seasons.
  • The RMC defense held Guilford to 67 yards on the ground. The Yellow Jackets entered the game first in the ODAC and 20th in the nation with 67.8 opponent rushing yards per contest.
  • The Yellow Jackets had three interceptions and did not turn the ball over. RMC entered the game 14th in the country in turnover margin at 1.50 and 20th with 11 turnovers gained.
