Six From Johns Hopkins Land D3football.com All-Region Honors

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The Johns Hopkins football team placed six players on the 2023 D3football.com All-Region 2 Team it was announced today.  The six include four first team honorees, one second team pick and one third team selection. This is the third consecutive year that Johns Hopkins has had six or more players named to the all-region team and the sixth time overall that six or more Blue Jays have been honored (2011, 2015, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023).  D3football.com first selected all-region teams in 2005 and the six selections this season boost JHU's all-time total to 79 all-region honorees.
 
Four Blue Jays – graduate student offensive lineman JR Woods, senior defensive lineman Luke Schuermann, senior tight end Will Leger and sophomore offensive lineman Michael Nwosu earned First Team D3football.com All-Region honors, while junior linebacker Cole Peters landed on the second team.  Rounding out Johns Hopkins' six selections was junior quarterback Bay Harvey, who earned third team honors.
 
JR Woods (OL) – First Team D3football.com All-Region
« Earns first team honors for the third consecutive year.
« Joins Schuermann as the first two players in school history to earn first team all-region three times.
« Becomes the second offensive lineman in school history to earn all-region three times (Armand Jenifer (2011-13)).
« Along with Nwosu, selection gives JHU 20 all-region offensive linemen since all-region team was first selected in 2005.
« Helped anchor a Blue Jay offensive line that helped pave the way for a unit that averaged 40.9 points and 472.2 yards per game.
« Earned All-Centennial Conference First Team honors for the third consecutive year this season
 
Luke Schuermann (DL) - First Team D3football.com All-Region
« Earns first team honors for the third consecutive year.
« Joins Woods as the first two players in school history to earn first team all-region three times.
« The first defensive player in school history to earn all-region honors three times.
« Selection marks the 10th time a Johns Hopkins defensive lineman has been named to the all-region team.
« Finished third on the team in tackles – and first among defensive linemen -  in tackles (55) and led the team in sacks (9.5) and tackles for loss (15.5).
« Additional honors this season included being a Campbell Trophy Finalist and a member of the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Class of 2023.
« Earned third straight selection to the All-Centennial First team as well.
 
Michael Nwosu (OL) - First Team D3football.com All-Region
« Earns all-region honors for the first time in his career.
« The only sophomore among the 16 offensive linemen named to the first, second and third teams – all 15 others were juniors, seniors or graduate students.
« Along with Nwosu, selection gives JHU 20 all-region offensive linemen since all-region team was first selected in 2005.
« Helped anchor a Blue Jay offensive line that helped pave the way for  a unit that averaged 40.9 points and 472.2 yards per game.
« Previously named to the 2023 All-Centennial Conference First Team.
 
Will Leger (TE) - First Team D3football.com All-Region
« Earns all-region honors for the first time in his career.
« Becomes just the second tight end in program history to earn all-region honors (Emmett Turner / 1st Team / 2022).
« Finished season with 24 receptions for 419 yards and 12 touchdowns.
« Tied for first on the team in touchdown receptions, tied for third in receptions and ranked third in yards.
« 12 touchdown receptions are a Johns Hopkins single-season record for a tight end and tied for fifth-best overall.
 
Cole Peters (LB) - Second Team D3football.com All-Region
« Earns all-region honors for the first time in his career.
« Selection marks the eighth time a Johns Hopkins linebacker has earned all-region honors since team debuted in 2005.
« In first season as a starter, led the team in tackles (85), tied for team-lead in interceptions (3) and added 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and three pass breakups.
« Previously named to the 2023 All-Centennial Conference First Team.
 
Bay Harvey (QB) - Third Team D3football.com All-Region
« Earns all-region honors for the first time in his career.
« Becomes the fourth different JHU quarterback to earn all-region honors (the four have combined for seven selections).
« Was 250-of-362 (.691) for 3,297 yards with 36 touchdowns against eight interceptions.  Also second on the team in rushing (627) and led the team with 10 rushing touchdowns.
« Set school records for overall touchdowns (46), passing touchdowns (36) and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (10).
« First player in school history to pass for more than 3,000 yards and rush for more than 600 yards.
« Previously named to the 2023 All-Centennial Conference Second Team.
 
Johns Hopkins posted a 12-1 record, won the program's league-record 16th Centennial Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the third time in program history in 2023.
