More news about: Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/23/23) – Junior Derrick Revolus had his hands all over the first half for the Nichols College football team as he recorded two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, and then a punt return for a touchdown on Saturday afternoon from Vendetti Field. The Bison topped Hartwick College 52-3.

The Bison could not be stopped, the defense held the Hawks to 52 rushing yards, while the offense totaled 470 yards in the win. Senior Xavier Powell went 14-19 passing for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick. He also rushed for 18 yards and two rushing touchdowns as well. Classmate Archie Killian led the rushing attack with 82 yards on 12 carries and senior River Jackson caught four balls for 131 yards and touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball the front seven were all over the Hawks offense. Freshman Patrick Henry led the way with nine total tackles, including a half sack and a quarterback hurry. Senior David Harding led the team with three solo tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack as well. Senior Dante Barboza caught his first collegiate interception and also recorded a sack as well for the Bison defense.

With the win, the Bison earn their first win over Hartwick in program history. The two previous matchups went in favor of the Hawks, including a meeting last year.

The Bison grabbed an early lead in the first quarter when Powell and Jackson connected on a 39-yard passing touchdown to grab a 7-0 lead just 1:58 into the contest. The ensuing Hartwick drive, Hawks quarterback Dennis Riordan was hurried and had his pass intercepted by Revolus. Revolus returned the pick 52 yards for the touchdown, to double up the Bison's score, 14-0.

Powell and Jackson connected again, this time for 49 yards, which ultimately led to a Powell keeper and a 21-0 lead for Nichols with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter. The Bison led 21-0 through the first 15 minutes of action.

The Hawks earned their only points of the afternoon off a field goal just 1:16 into the second quarter to cut into the Bison lead, 21-3. Hartwick's next drive, the offense moved the ball before being stopped and forced to punt. Their punt was caught by Revolus at the 32-yard line and he made everyone miss, sprinting down the Nichols sideline for a 68 yard punt return for a touchdown. Bison led 28-3 after that score.

Wither just 30 second reaming in the half, Powell scored his second rushing touchdown of the afternoon, on a six-yard run. Extending the Bison led 34-3 at the half.

The second as more of the same for the Bison. Junior Jack Morvan and Powell connected on an eight-yard crossing route and the Bison extra point was blocked but recovered by junior Gianluca Gonser and he rushed the ball in for a two-point conversion. Bison led 42-3 as that point.

Nichols scored one more touchdown thanks to senior running back Zahir Booker who scored on a four-yard rush, making it 49-3. Sophomore Colby Bernier knocked in a 39-yard field goal, making it 52-3 and that score would hold.

With the win the Bison move back to .500 with a 2-2 record and get set for their next opponent, Gallaudet. The Bison will welcome in the Bison (Gallaudet) to Vendetti Field for Nichols' homecoming game. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 30th.
