UD Football Dominates First Quarter in 45-21 Road Victory Over Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team opened up for 21 points in the first quarter on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-2 in the American Rivers Conference with a 45-21 road victory. The chilly fall conditions didn't slow the Spartans as they scored in all, but the third quarter and compiled 587 yards on the day.

UD rushed for 276 yards and passed for 311 yards while holding the host Storm to 44 yards on teh ground and 242 through the air. Fabian Jackson carried the ball just five times, but broke a 70 yard run for a touchdown to finish with 87 yards. Mike Westbrooks rushed five times for 65 yards and nearly broke a run for a touchdown before being stopped by a shoestring tackle on a 51 yard scamper late in the game. Devin Moore carried the ball 10 times for 43 yards and Lovell Armstead rushed four times for 40 yards.

K.C. Moore completed 22-30 pass attempts and tossed five touchdowns for 311 yards with his longest being for 64 yards to Za'Cameron Brice. Brice caught three touchdowns after being targeted nine times in the game and led with 105 yards in receiving. Wade Sheets caught eight for 104 yards with his longest being for 37 yards. Conner Halla punted twice for 76 yards, kicked off seven times for 356 yards, and was 1-1 in field goals after scoring from 24 yards with 4:46 to go in the fourth quarter.

Defensively a trio of Spartans led in tackles with Dalton Wood, Chase Stuver, and Joziah Perez all finishing with five tackles. Dalton Creighton, Alex Rashid, and Ben Rashid all collected four tackles each. Ben Rashid had a sack for a loss of 12 yards and Alex Rashid finished with four pass break-ups. The Spartans left with six tackles for losses of 32 yards on the road.

The Spartans will host the Coe College Kohawks next Saturday in their final home game of the season at Chalmers Field at 1:00 p.m. The Kohawks will enter after a lopsided home affair against the Luther College Norse by a final of 64-2 and 571 yards of total offense.
