SEWANEE, Tenn. - On the 71st Homecoming celebration at The University of the South, the Sewanee football team dropped a 49-25 decision to the Majors of Millsaps College on Saturday from Historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

CLASS OF 2020!
-20 seniors between the football team and the cheerleading squad were recognized prior to Saturday's kickoff: Sam Blackstock, Bre Corn, Alex Darras, Sam Hearn, Warren Holland, Phelps Hunnicutt, Sam Jackson, Micah Maes, Joseph Marasciullo, J.T. Mitchell, Justin Pignocco, Allan Puri, Dane Quinn, E.J. Ray, Thomas Richardson, Andrew Schauer, Joe Schauer, Christian Spencer, Josh Szymchak and Scott Ullstein.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Millsaps struck the scoreboard first on the team's second possession after recording the team's second interception in as many drives. Amryn Jeffrey posted a 17-yard touchdown reception to Austin Russell for the early 7-0 lead.
-After a three-and-out by the Tigers on their next possession, the Majors made it a 14-0 lead on a 20-yard catch by Moise Tezzo with 2:33 left in the opening quarter.
-On Sewanee's next drive, after a Millsaps penalty to push the ball to the Sewanee 18-yard-line, George Morrice found a hole on the right side and ran 81 yards to put the hosts on the board.
-The second quarter saw the Majors have three opportunities to pad their lead on field goal attempts, but the visitors missed from 32, 46 and 36 yards in the quarter but maintained a 14-7 lead at the break.
-When Millsaps won the coin toss to start the game, the team gave Sewanee the ball to start the game and they would start the second half with possession. On the first play from scrimmage, Jeffrey's pass was intercepted by Daniel May and it gave Sewanee life at the visitor's 32-yard-line.
-The Tigers got the ball to the nine-yard-line after a 19-yard completion from Cooper Hancock to Micah Maes. However, the Tigers could not advance the ball further after three straight incompletions. Brody Palmer converted a 26-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 14-10 with 11:40 left in the third.
-The Majors found their spark after that, as the team scored touchdowns on the team's next three possessions to lead 35-10 with 9:02 left in the fourth stanza.
-Sewanee scored twice in the fourth quarter. Cyrus McCullough caught a five-yard pass from Hancock, and Colin May caught a pass on the two-point conversion to make it 35-18.
-On the Tigers' last drive of the game, Michael McGhee ran the ball in six yards for a touchdown with 11 seconds before Josh Szymchak converted the extra point to make the score 49-25.
-Millsaps outscored Sewanee 35-18 in the final two periods to secure the win.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-George Morrice ran for 94 yards on four carries, including the 81-yard run for six points.
-Cooper Hancock posted 142 yards on 17-of-35 passing. Nine different receivers were targeted for Sewanee, led by Colin May with 41 yards on three catches.
-Cyrus McCullough, who recorded a receiving touchdown, averaged 19.1 yards per kickoff return with 134 yards on seven attempts.
-Alex Coffield had 15 total tackles, three for a loss and a forced fumble, and Pierce Johnson added 12 stops.
MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Amryn Jeffrey posted 377 yards on 23-of-32 with four touchdowns. Austin Russell caught 208 of those yards with two touchdowns.
-Fritz Walker III posted a touchdown on 24 carries for 89 yards.

Sewanee will have a bye week next week before wrapping up the season on Nov. 16 at Hendrix.
