LOS ANGELES — Joshua Greaves continued his outstanding play at the quarterback position as the Occidental football team competed well against the No. 19 Chapman Panthers.
But despite a surprising first-half score and some positive things on offense and defense, the Tigers fell 56-23 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Homecoming Saturday.
Greaves was 25 for 43 for 361 yards and three touchdowns. He continues his outstanding start to the season, leading SCIAC players with an average of 288.8 yards per game and he has thrown nine touchdowns this year.
His best target was John Isaac Cordova, who had five catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. Arman Henry had four catches for 76 yards, Seth Holston had six catches for 70 yards, Andrew Jack de Avila had two catches for 46 yards, and Ben Rosen had three catches for 28 yards.
Isaac Cordova, Holston and Rosen scored Oxy's three touchdowns and Kyler Parris hit a 20-yard field goal in the first half.
The Tigers went into the locker room down just 28-10 against a very good Panthers team.
Harrison Wakefield led Oxy's defense with 11 tackles, including two for a loss, and Anthony Solis and Sam Meinhard each made eight. Connor Saludares had an interception and Raffi Titizian had a pair of nice pass break ups.
Chapman's Tanner Mendoza led the ground game with 11 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns, Spencer Corona had five receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterbacks Johnston Macintyre and Reed Vettel combined for five touchdown passes.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 1-4 on the season and 0-3 in SCIAC play.
Chapman improves to 5-0 and 3-0.
