Ithaca's Pat Minogue Named AFCA First-Team All-America

More news about: Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – On Monday morning, December 10, senior Pat Minogue of the Ithaca College football program was named Division III First-Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as a linebacker. Minogue becomes just the 15th player in the football program's history to be named an All-American by the AFCA and the first since 2005.

The last Bomber to earn first-team honors was Joe Scalice as an offensive lineman. Ithaca's first-ever AFCA All-American was Gary Worden in 1969.

Minogue adds this illustrious honor to an already impressive senior season. He was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, Liberty League First-Team All-Conference and was a D3football.com First-Team All-Region recipient. The Manorville, N.Y. native also landed on the D3football.com Team of the Week twice this season.

At just 6-foot and 185 pounds, Minogue played his career on South Hill as if he was the biggest player out on the field each week. Just this season alone, he led Ithaca in tackles (85), tackles for loss (10.5), pass breakups (nine), forced fumbles (two), fumble recoveries (two), blocked kicks (two) and a defensive touchdown. Minogue also recorded two interceptions on the season.

In three different games in 2018, Minogue logged more than 11 tackles, including a season-high 13 against Brockport on September 8.

Not only was he one of the most dominant players on the defensive side of the ball, Minogue also served as Ithaca's punter. In 56 punts this season, Minogue averaged 35.0 yards per punt and set a school record with a 67-yard boot against Cortland in the 60th Cortaca Jug Game on November 11. He notched five punts over 50 yards this season and pinned the opposition inside the 20-yard line on 11 different occasions. Minogue also led the Liberty League with 17 fair catches.

After the third week of the season, a 21-14 victory over Alfred, Minogue was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week as a punter. In the game, he recorded four punts for an average of 51.0 yards, including a then school record 65-yard boot. Minogue sent three of his punts inside the 20 and two traveled over 50 yards. He was then named to the team again after he blocked a pair of punts in the Cortaca Jug Game.

Minogue, a tri-captain, helped guide Ithaca to an 8-3 record this season. The Bombers possessed one of the top defenses in all of Division III for a majority of the season, as the unit ranked top 20 nationally in points per game allowed, rush defense, first downs allowed, total defense and third down conversion percentage.

Minogue also found a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week during his sophomore season after a win over Union. He recorded nine tackles, 3.0 for a loss of 13 yards, one sack, a forced fumble and interception.

Over his four years as a Bomber, Minogue notched 233 tackles, 32.5 for loss, 15 pass breakups, seven sacks, six forced fumbles, five interceptions and three fumble recoveries. As a punter, he recorded 140 attempts for 4,888 yards (34.9 yards per punt), sent 26 inside the 20-yard line, 24 were fair caught and six traveled over 50 yards.
