Thomas More Runs Away From Yellow Jackets, 59-7

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College football team out-gained Waynesburg University 554 yards to 196 yards as it defeated the Yellow Jackets, 59-7, today (Saturday, October 14, 2017) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the PAC and with the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the PAC.

Thomas More led 10-0 after one quarter, 38-0 at halftime and 45-0 after three quarters.

The Saints took a 3-0 lead with 4:26 to play in the first quarter when sophomore kicker Cole Mathias (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) connected on a 21-yard field goal.  Senior quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored on a 40-yard touchdown run and Mathias added the point-after-attempt and the Saints increased the lead to 10-0 with 1:34 to play in the first quarter.

Thomas More extended the lead to 17-0 with 14:46 to play in the second quarter when Kuntz connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Daylin Garland II (Newport, Ky./Newport) and Mathias added the PAT.  Senior fullback Cam Evans (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Kuntz and Mathias added the PAT and the Saints led 24-0 with 13:21 to play in the second quarter.  Thomas More increased the lead to 31-0 with 6:53 to play in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Justin Post (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) connected on a seven-yard touchdown pass to junior running back Hjavier Pitts (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) and Mathias added the PAT.   The Saints took a 38-0 lead at halftime when Kuntz connected on a 19-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Darryl Keels (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) and Mathias connected on the PAT with 2:00 to play in the second quarter.

With 10:28 to play in the third quarter Kuntz scored on a 20-yard touchdown run and Mathias made the PAT and to increase the lead to 45-0.

The Saints extended the lead to 52-0 when Kuntz connected on a 14-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Da'marco Canty (Bogart, Ga./North Oconee) and sophomore kicker Alex Barnhart (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) added the PAT with 13:06 to play in the fourth quarter.  The lead increased to 59-0 with 5:02 to play in the game when Post scored on a 63-yard touchdown run and Barnhart added the PAT.  Waynesburg scored with 2:25 to play in the game for the final score of 59-7.

Thomas More had 339 yards on the ground and 215 yards passing, while the defense held Waynesburg to 103 yards on the ground and 93 yards in passing.

Kuntz led the offense as he was 14-of-21 passing for 196 yards and four touchdowns and had eight rushes for 89 yards and two touchdowns.  Junior running back Luke Zajac (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) had 13 carries for 71 yards and had three catches for 38 yards, while Pitts had 12 carries for 69 yards and had one catch for seven yards and a touchdown.  Garland led the receiving corps with three catches for 73 yards and one touchdown and Keels had three catches for 32 yards and one touchdown.

Sophomore linebacker Adam Guard (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Pinecrest Academy (Ga.)) led the Saints' defense with nine tackles (six solo/three assisted), including one tackle for a loss, while senior defensive back Johnny Lammers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had seven tackles (three solo/four assisted).  Senior linebacker Gabe Rice (Cincinnati, Ohio/Norwood) had five tackles (all solo) and senior linebacker Logan Galarno (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) had five tackles (two solo/three assisted).

The Saints remain at home next Saturday (October 21) when they host Saint Vincent College at 12 p.m. at BB&T Field.
