DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque football team improved to 2-0 overall after a 37-13 home victory over Pacific University (Ore.) on Saturday night.
The Spartans scored in every quarter to finish the non-conference schedule perfect. UD racked up 273 yards on the ground and 185 yards passing to finish with 458 yards after running 59 plays for an average gain of 7.8 yards. The Spartans defense held Pacific to 149 yards on the ground and 130 yards in the air for 279 yards, 4.0 yards gained per play. The Boxers held a slim edge in possession time 31:32 to UD's 28:28.
Quarterback Conor Feckley completed 7-21 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. The only two receivers to catch a pass were Emmanuel Jenkins who caught six passes for 155 yards and an 83 yard touchdown. Kody Riemer grabbed one pass for 30 yards. The ground attack was led by Dwayne Allen Jr. who rushed 16 times for 171 yards and a 62 yard touchdown. Maurece Herrion trailed closely behind with 15 carries for 97 yards and two touchdowns, his longest being from 35 yards.
Derek Trotter finished with nine tackles, but Michael Joseph tied a school record by finishing the night with three interceptions for 26 yards. UD ended their home opener with 11 tackles for loss, including seven sacks with Quintell Wilson and Kyle Marsh each garnering 2.5 sacks each for losses of 35 yards in the victory.
Jacob Rentz punted six times for 236 yards, an average of 39.3 yards a punt. Brayden Neuendorf had seven kickoffs for 415 yards and one touchback for an average of 59.3 yards. Neuendorf added a 27 yard field goal and four extra points to his credit.
The Spartans (2-0 overall) prepare to open their Iowa Conference season next Saturday under the lights of Chalmers Field against the Loras College Duhawks (1-1) in the Key City Clash. Loras lost at home against the Aurora University Spartans 31-26 at the Rock Bowl. Loras finished with 443 yards of offense in 88 plays for a 5.0 yards a play.
