Guilford Adds Five More to Football Class of 2021

GREENSBORO, N.C.  Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the official commitment of five more student-athletes to play football for the Quakers Monday. These students have paid their deposits to Guilford and will enroll for classes beginning in August. Rusiewicz's seventh recruiting class now consists of 15 student-athletes.

Caleb Bellamy (Charlotte, N.C.) lettered three times for head coach Brad Bowles at Providence High School. The 5-8, 150-pound defensive back helped the Panthers to 18 victories in his three seasons and a third-round appearance in the 2014 North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 4AA state playoffs. A team captain at Providence, he made 54 career tackles, including two tackles for loss, along with an interception and a forced fumble. He intends to study chemistry at Guilford.

Brandon Keller (Kannapolis, N.C.) is a 6-4, 270-pound offensive lineman from Northwest Cabarrus High School where he made appearances at center, guard and tackle along the Trojans' line. He lettered three times for head coach Brandon Gentry and earned Charlotte Observer Player of the Week as a junior after blocking a last-second field-goal attempt, which preserved a Trojans' win. Keller also lettered in wrestling, where he made a regional heavyweight appearance.

Devon Robinson (Anderson, S.C.) is a 5-11, 190-pound linebacker who earned three letters for head coach Scott Earley at Westside High School. He helped the Rams to Region 1 5A titles in 2015 and 2016, as well as a pair of second-round appearances in the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) state playoffs. As a senior, Robinson compiled tallied 90 tackles (49 solo), including 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He also earned letters in wrestling, where he competed at 182 pounds and helped the program to a Region I 5A title. Robinson also participated in track & field and tennis. He received academic honors as a member of the wrestling and tennis teams, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Trace Turner III (Summerville, S.C.) lettered in each of his four seasons for head coach Russell Zehr at Cane Bay High School. The 6-0, 265-pound offensive lineman spent time at center and right guard en route to First Team All-Dorchester County, First Team All-Low Country, all-region and Class AAAA all-state honors. He was twice named his school's most valuable offensive lineman and served as a captain for two seasons. Turner tallied 46 career starts and helped lead Cane Bay to its best record in program history (10-2) in 2016. The Cobras made a second-round appearance in the 2016 SCHSL Class AAAA state playoffs. Turner was also a leader in Cane Bay's Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Brian Williams (Cary, N.C.) earned three letters for head coach Kwame Dixon at Green Hope High School. A 5-11, 270-pound defensive lineman, Williams helped Green Hope to a 10-3 record and a 2014 Southwest Wake Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship. In three varsity seasons, he totaled 81 tackles and eight tackles for loss. A four-time Academic All-SWAC selection, he is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and his school's DECA chapter. Williams also lettered one season in basketball for the Falcons. His brother, Marcus, was a four-year letter-winning defensive lineman for the Quakers who graduated in 2016. Brian plans to major in environmental science upon his arrival on campus.

Guilford expects 13 starters among 59 returning letterwinners from the 2016 team, which went 4-6. The Quakers open the 2017 campaign September 2 at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.
