FORMER KING'S ASSISTANT JOSH BOYER WINS ANOTHER SUPER BOWL RING WITH NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

WILKES-BARRE — Former King's College assistant football coach Josh Boyer will soon be fitted for a second for Super Bowl ring as a member of the New England Patriots coaching staff.  Boyer who coached with the Monarchs in 2000, joined the Patriots staff in 2006 and completed his 10th season in the NFL Sunday night with a thrilling 34-28 come-from-behind victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Houston, TX.

Boyer is the Patriots' cornerbacks coach and had the task of preparing his unit for NFL most valuable player Matt Ryan, star wide receiver Julio Jones, and the remainder of the potent Falcons' offense. The Patriots fell behind 21-0 and 28-3 in the second half but New England's defense shut down Ryan and company, limiting the Falcons to one second-half score, allowing Tom Brady and the offense to stage the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Boyer came to King's College in 2000 looking to enter the coaching ranks and secured himself a position as a postgraduate intern position for then-Monarch head coach Rich Mannello.  It marked Boyer's fourth Super Bowl with the Patriots, who won the 2015 NFL championship with a 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks when one of Boyer's charges, Malcolm Butler, posted the game-saving interception at the goal line in the final moments of the game.

In Boyer's lone season at King's the Monarchs went 6-4.  But Boyer was actively involved in recruiting which helped bring in a number of quality players who helped King's improve to 8-3 in 2001 and a MAC championship in 2002 when the Monarchs went 9-3 and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III national playoffs.

After his one year at King's he continued up the coaching ladder, securing assistant coaching positions at University of Dayton, Kent State, Bryant University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology


COLLEGE PLAYING CAREER

Boyer was a four-year starter at Muskingum College (Ohio) from 1996-99, playing wide receiver for three years before switching to defensive back as a senior. He was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference as a senior defensive back in 1999.

PERSONAL

Boyer is a native of Heath, Ohio. He was a two-time Academic All-Conference selection at Muskingum and graduated in 2000 with a degree in physical education and health.
