Eagles drop Privateers, 40-14

More news about: Husson

Bangor, Maine – John Smith rushed for over 100 yards for the fifth time this season to lead the Eagles to a 40-14 win against SUNY Maritime in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) action on Saturday afternoon at Winkin Sports Complex.

Husson (6-1, 5-0 ECFC) wins its twelfth-straight league game, while SUNY Maritime (3-5, 1-4 ECFC) loses its fourth-consecutive game to the Eagles and falls to 2-9 in the series.

The Eagles struck first with 11:05 left in the first quarter, as Joe Seccareccia hit Deon Wiggins for a 16-yard touchdown.

SUNY Maritime tied up the game for the first time on the day with an 8-play, 59-yard drive when Brett McKinney punched in the score with a 5 yard run at the 6:20 mark of the quarter.

Husson regain the lead six seconds into the second quarter when Smith drilled in a 1-yard score, capping off a 15-play, 70-yard drive that lasted well over six minutes. The Privateers answered right back once again tying the game at 14-14 when Brett McKinney scored on 3-yard a run for his second rushing touchdown of the game.

The Eagles put the game way after Ian Palmer forced McKinney to fumble the ball at mid field and Alonzo Connor recovered it at the Privateer 48. Five plays later Robenson Saintard scored on a 10-yard end reverse with 39 seconds left in the half.

The Privateers coughed up the ball once again when Ellis Throckmorton stripped Nick Fischetti with 18 seconds left in the half to setup the Eagles final score before the half, when Joe Seccareccia found Deon Wiggins' hands for a 27-yard touchdown as time expired to give Husson a 28-14 lead going into intermission. Wiggins now has 14 career receiving touchdowns, the most in program history.

Husson received second half touchdowns from Smith on 3-yard run in the third and Seccareccia connected on 10-yard touchdown pass to DJ Allen in the fourth.

Smith finished with 133 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns and Saintard rushed for 37 yards on five carries and a score. Wiggins finished with four receptions for 58 yards and two scores to lead the Husson receivers.

Seccareccia finished 14-23 for 158 yards with three scores and no interceptions while Zack Chilcott went 3-11 for 64 yards, and two interceptions.

Mckinney led all Privateers on the ground with 90 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.

Jean Gabriel led the Eagles defense with 9 total tackles in the game. Christian Mowrer and Marquis Jiminez each had an interception in the win. Kendal Parker record 15 total tackles in the lost for SUNY Maritime.

Husson returns to field on November 7 for a 1:00 p.m. game at Norwich and the Privateers will host Mount Ida with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
