(DOVER, Del.) - The 22nd-ranked Thomas More College football team fell, 35-20, to fifth-ranked Wesley College today (Saturday, September 6, 2014) in both teams' season opener at Scott D. Miller Stadium in Dover, Delaware.

The Saints start the season at 0-1, while the Wolverines open at 1-0.

Wesley led 14-7 after one quarter, 21-7 at halftime and 28-7 after three quarters.

Thomas More took an early 7-0 lead when junior wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored on a 39-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) and junior kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added the point-after-attempt with 11:08 to play in the first quarter.

Wesley tied the game at 7-7 with 9:24 to play in the first quarter when Robert Wiggs scored on a 49-yard pass from Joe Callhan and Liam Dolly added the PAT.

With 34-seconds to play in the opening half, Callahan connected on a 33-yard touchdown pass to Steve Koudossou and Dolly added the PAT to increase the lead to 14-7.

The Wolverines increased the lead to 21-7 at halftime when Callhan and Koudossou connected on an 11-yard touchdown and Dolly added the PAT with 7:06 to play in the second half.

In the third quarter, Wesley extend the lead to 28-7 when Jamar Baynard scored on a 23-yard run and Dolly added the PAT with 6:25 to play in the quarter.

Thomas More cut the lead to 28-14 with 12:41 to play in the fourth quarter when Cohorn scored on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Gebhardt and Budke added the PAT.

Wesley increased the lead to 35-14 when Xavier Allen scored on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Callahan and Dolly added the PAT with 5:14 to play in the game.

The Saints cut the lead to 35-20 with 47-seconds to play in game when junior wide receiver Tyler Vogelpohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) scored on a 10-yard pass from Gebhardt and Budke's PAT was blocked.

The Wolverines out-gained Saints 425 yards (112 rushing/313 passing) to 406 yards (137 rushing/269 passing).

Gebhardt was 24-of-49 passing for 269 yards and three touchdowns.  Cohorn led the receivers with seven catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns, while Vogelpohl had five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown and senior wide receiver Bobby Leonard (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) had seven catches for 54 yards.  Senior running back Domonique Hayden (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian) led the team on the ground with 24 carries for 92 yards, while freshman running back CT Tarrant (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hamilton (Ohio)) had nine carries for 47 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Austin Copeland (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) led the offense with 12 tackles (seven solo, five assisted), including one tackle for a loss and had a forced fumble.  Senior defensive lineman Chris Bowman (Camp Springs, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had eight tackles (two solo, six assisted), including a half tackle for a loss, while freshman linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) finished with seven tackles (two solo, five assisted).

The Saints remain on the road next Saturday (September 13) as they travel to Hanover, Indiana to play traditional rival Hanover College at 1:30 p.m. at L.S. Ayers Field.
