More news about: St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College jumped out to a 21-0 lead and controlled throughout a 52-17 win over Beloit College in a Midwest Conference game at Schneider Stadium. The win keeps the Green Knights (7-1, 7-0 MWC) tied with Illinois College atop the league standings.

The Green Knights, who have won their last 12 Midwest Conference games, took advantage of a short Beloit (1-8, 1-7) punt to get their first score. Brandon Carter rushed four consecutive times to cover 20 yards, scoring on a 4-yard touchdown with 7:57 left in the first quarter.

St. Norbert recovered a Beloit fumble on its own 17-yard line on its next series, and the Green Knights scored two plays later on a 15-yard touchdown pass from James Tringali to Curtiss Arndt at the 5:19 mark.

Beloit turned the ball over again three plays later when Anthony Parker made a circus one-handed interception at the St. Norbert 40. On the next play, Tringali hit Brian Fliess on a long pass. Fliess fumbled at the Beloit 3, and a hustling Larry Amato corralled the loose ball in the end zone for the touchdown.

The Buccaneers scored late in the first quarter when a drive was kept alive on a fourth-down pass interference penalty on St. Norbert. Evan Phillips' 10-yard touchdown to Luke McLeran with 11 seconds left in the quarter cut the deficit to 21-7.

Beloit scored three points off a Tringali interception, with Kameron Sallee drilling a 36-yard field goal with 12:52 left in the first half. St. Norbert extended its lead three plays later on a 42-yard touchdown run by Brandon Carter. Randy Hill then kicked a 20-yard field goal 55 seconds before halftime for a 31-10 lead.

St. Norbert put the game away with two third-quarter touchdowns. Tony Ledvina had a 2-yard run on the first possession of the second half, and Tringali connected with Fliess on a 57-yard aerial for a 45-10 lead.

Beloit scored with 6:05 left in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard run by Sallee. The Green Knights scored the game's final points on a 1-yard touchdown run by Matt Wanezek with 50 seconds left.

St. Norbert outgained Beloit 475-279 in total offense. Carter rushed 21 times for 168 yards and two touchdowns, while Fliess caught three passes for 130 yards and one score. Tringali completed 8 of 18 passes for 207 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Mason Dixon led Beloit on the ground with 107 yards on 28 carries. Phillips completed 12 of 24 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. McLeran caught five passes for 21 yards.
