THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2012) – The Maritime football team lost its final home game of the 2012 season, 21-0, to ECFC-foe Gallaudet University on Saturday at Reinhart Field. Prior to kickoff, the Privateers paid tribute to their 19 seniors with a very special Senior Day Ceremony.

With the loss, Maritime falls to 3-6 on the season, including a 2-4 mark in ECFC action, while the Bison improve to 7-3 (5-2 ECFC).

Turnovers proved costly once again for the Privateers, as they lost three fumbles and had one interception against that was brought back for an 80-yard return for a touchdown. The Bison also dominated on time of possession, controlling the ball for 35:04 compared to Maritime's 22:57.

The first touchdown of the game came in the second quarter, when Bison QB junior Nick Elstad hooked up with senior Ryne Worsham for a six-yard TD pass. Freshman kicker Chase Magsig's PAT was good, giving Gallaudet the 7-0 advantage.

The game's second score was the 80-yard interception return by senior Tony Tatum, who intercepted the pass after it deflected through the Maritime receiver's hands. Magsig's PAT was good once again to make the score 14-0, which carried into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Elstad connected with Worsham again, this time for a 15-yard touchdown and Magsig added the PAT to round out the scoring on the day.

For the Privateers, senior Joe Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) was the team's leading rusher with 27 yards. Junior quarterback Tyler Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) was 2-for-6 on completions for 31 yards and freshman Andrew Madden (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) saw time behind center in the second half and was 2-for-3 for 46 yards. Freshman Zachary Chilcott (Ulster Park, N.Y./Kingston) was Maritime's leading receiver with one catch for 30 yards.

The one bright note in the game for the Privateers was that senior linebacker Keith Barnes (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) had a fantastic day, recording a game- and season-high 20 tackles (15 solo and five assisted), including one sack for a loss of three yards and one forced fumble. Freshman Kameron Knight (Clayton, N.C./West Johnson) ended the day with 11 tackles, including three for losses of five yards and a forced fumble.

For Gallaudet, Elstad finished the day 3-for-6 for 26 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Freshman Braxton Baker was the Bison's leading rusher with 89 yards, while Worsham caught all three of the passes and ended with 26 receiving yards. On defense, sophomore Akeem Guidry and senior Shelby Bean both had a team-high seven tackles.
