Fisher Improves To 8-1 With Win Over Frostburg

St. John Fisher College racked up 344 yards of total offense in the first half and cruised to a 38-6 win over visiting Frostburg State University on Saturday in a non-conference Division III football matchup.


With the win, Fisher, ranked 23rd in the D3football.com poll, improves to 8-1 overall.  Frostburg falls to 1-7.

 

Fisher finished the game with 483 yards of total offense – 350 of which were accounted for by senior quarterback Tim Bailey (East Aurora, NY).


Bailey, who became the College's all-time leader in completions today with 583 now for his career, completed 21-of-28 passes for 271 yards and one touchdown.  He also rushed 11 times for 79 yards and scored twice.

 

After turning the ball over on the game's opening possession, Fisher scored 17 straight points.

 

Ryan Kramer (Oneida, NY) scored on a 14-yard run, capping an 11-play, 84-yard drive midway through the first quarter.  On Fisher's next possession, Ryan Schmidt (Whitesboro, NY) scored on a 10-yard pass from Bailey, making it 14-0 six seconds into the second quarter.

 

The Cardinals settled for three points on its next possession, as Chad Monheim (Webster, NY) booted a career-long 38-yard kick, making it 17-0.

 

Bailey gave Fisher a 24-0 halftime-lead, as the senior scored on a 25-yard run with 1:29 left in the second quarter.

 

Fisher picked up in the second half right where it left off, as Kramer scored his second touchdown of the day and his ninth of the season on a nine-yard run with 11:11 left in the third.

 

Frostburg got on the board with 5:41 left in the third quarter, as Derek Sheely (Germantown, MD) scored on a four-yard pass from backup-quarterback Lyndon Harris (Forestville, MD).

 

Bailey closed out the scoring with a four-yard run, ending an eight-play, 78-yard drive early in the fourth quarter.

 

For Fisher, Kramer rushed 16 times for a team-high 95 yards.  He also caught four passes for 65 yards.

 

Schmidt snagged 10 passes for 98 yards, including eight catches in the first half.  Dan Witkowski (Webster, NY) finished with three catches for 70 yards. 

 

Defensively, Fisher forced four turnovers, including three fumbles.  Brenden Moore (Jamesville, NY), Mason Judd (Macedon, NY) and Tyler Schier (Montgomery, NY) each recovered a fumble, while Adam Burdick (Newfane, NY) intercepted a pass.  Joe Leavell (West Seneca, NY) led the Fisher defense with 11 tackles, while Kyle Macey (Troy, NY) , Tyler Wood (Massena, NY) and Byron Rhone (Angola, NY) were each in on sacks.

 

For the Bobcats, starting quarterback Geoff Suddath (Eldersburg, MD) was 11-for-23 for 111 yards and one interception.  Harris went into the game early in the second half and finished 9-for-15 for 74 yards and one touchdown.

 

Anthony King (Germantown, MD) ran 20 times for 100 yards, while Anthony Young (Hyattsville, MD) caught seven passes for 61 yards.

 

Marcus Wilson (Woodstock, MD) and Jim Lohr (Bowie, MD) were each credited with nine tackles.

 

Fisher will wrap up the 2010 regular season at 12 p.m. next Saturday and will host Springfield College, while Frostburg hosts The Apprentice School next Saturday at 1 p.m.
