Hiram has announced the resignation of Randy Moore as head coach of the Terriers football team, effective immediately.
"I have reached a very difficult decision to resign my position as the head football coach at Hiram College," said Moore. "After 33 years of coaching football, 24 at the Division III level, it is time for me to look at other career options. I'm not sure where that path will take me, but it is exciting for me to have this opportunity.
"I would like to thank the players and coaches that I have worked with the last six years," continued Moore. "They have helped me grow as a man and a coach. I look forward to the next chapter of my life."
Moore was named head coach of the program in 2010, taking over a team that had won only two games in the previous four seasons. Under his leadership, he guided the Terriers to a 5-5 overall record in 2014, which was the best season for the football team since 1988.
This past season, Hiram rallied to win four of its final five games to finish 4-6. In addition, the Terriers landed seven All-North Coast Athletic Conference honorees, the most since joining the conference in 1999.
The nine combined wins for the program over the past two seasons are the most wins recorded since the 1987 and 1988 seasons, when Hiram won a combined total of 14 games.
"I want to thank Randy for his service to the College," said athletic director Ellen Dempsey. "He has been an integral part of Hiram College football and has played a key role in changing the direction and perception of Hiram College football in Northeast Ohio, as well as across the state and on regional and national levels. We wish him all the best."
The department has also announced that Henry Stanford will served as interim head coach of the football program. Stanford, who serves as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator, will assume duties immediately.
Stanford was head coach at Capital from 2010-12, compiling a record of 12-18. He has been the offensive coordinator at Hiram for the past three seasons, leading an offense that has broken team school records in passing yards and total offense.
Stanford has also had coaching stints at Elmhurst, Tiffin, Kenyon, Otterbein and Ohio State.
