Hartwick has suspended five players and its head coach following an end-of-game personal foul penalty and on-field argument after Hartwick's game with St. John Fisher.
"We were disheartened to determine a small group of our players chose to engage in conduct that does not reflect the values and spirit of the college and our athletic department," Hartwick athletic director Kim Fierke said in a statement. "From the initial report, we took these allegations seriously, acted quickly to address them, and will be disciplining the players and coaching staff we found to be at fault."
"As discipline issues at the College are considered private, we will have no further comment on the matter," the department's statement concluded.
According to a report in The (Oneonta, N.Y.) Daily Star, Hartwick did not practice on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Hawks are scheduled to play at Utica on Saturday in the season finale.

So as many already know and more do not. Saturday in the game vs St. John Fisher the benches were cleared. Luckily the men filming the game had the awareness to capture the event on camera. This video is clear evidence of what happened that day. Now because of the events that unfolded our well respected leader and coach. Coach Carr is under a school imposed 2 game suspension. He can be clearly seen in his white visor controlling the line between the Hartwick and Fisher athletes. If not for him this day could have ended in tragedy. A number of our players are also being cited for unsportsmanlike behavior and are under suspension as well. Some of these players are seniors that have had their last game taken from them. I ask that you please watch the attached video of the events that unfolded that day and make the decision for yourself. Our school administration has turned its back on their students, especially athletics for a long time now. This is the last straw, and we refuse to roll over and take yet another unjust punishment. We have a meeting with the president at 1:30 pm tomorrow. We ask that all in support meet in the lobby of the library 4th floor at 1:15pm to show support, please wear anything that has to do with you as a student at Hartwick. Whether that is Greek letters, athletic wear, or even just a Hartwick t shirt. Thank you. #LetOurSeniorsPlay
