Morrisville, Rowan win in NJAC, tables turn on St. Norbert

Julian Serrano and the Morrisville State defense kept TCNJ in check in improving to 4-1.

Morrisville State improved to 4-1 as a four-year school for the first time, while Rowan got a big performance in its NJAC opener Saturday afternoon to keep Cortland winless.

Not only has Morrisville State never been 4-1 since moving up from the junior college ranks, the Mustangs have never even won four games in an entire season, but they got to four wins Saturday by rolling over TCNJ 41-13. Standout quarterback Lemar Johnson threw for 244 yards and ran for 115 and four touchdowns in the win.

Withler Marcelin ran for 245 yards and three touchdowns as Rowan kept Cortland State in the winless column, defeating the Red Dragons 38-14. It's the first win for Rowan at Cortland since 2005. Two quarterbacks combined to go 25-for-56 for Cortland (0-4). Montclair State and Kean are unbeaten in the NJAC through the first full week of action as well.

A week after St. Norbert pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback, the Green Knights were victims of one this time around as Cornell scored twice in the fourth quarter to win 28-27.

Berry picked up its first-ever Division III football win, as the Vikings scored in the closing minutes of regulation to tie, held Washington University on a fourth-down conversion attempt in overtime and finished with a 25-yard strike from Dale Jackson to Josh Bullock to open its OT possession and defeat Wash U 29-23. The Vikings had lost their first 12 games since the program's debut for the 2013 season.

Delaware Valley pulled away from Albright 56-24 behind another big day for seniors Aaron Wilmer and Rasheed Bailey. Wilmer threw for four touchdowns and ran for one while Bailey picked up 252 yards and four touchdowns, each school records. Ursinus moved to 5-0, shutting out Moravian 24-0 as the Greyhounds fell to 3-2. Defensive back Kyle Adkins and defensive end Steve Ambs each had two sacks for the Bears, part of the team's total of seven.

Tyler Kohman's kick hits the crossbar and goes over.

On an untimed down at the end of the game, Tyler Kohman kicked a school-record 50-yard field goal to lift Carnegie Mellon past Westminster (Pa.) 27-24. Kohman got his shot when Westminster was called for a personal foul on a sack on what would have been the final play of regulation, moving the ball to the Titans 33. Carnegie Mellon had just tied the score on a touchdown with 43 seconds left.

Hampden-Sydney had an easy time at Catholic, picking off Cardinals quarterback TJ Tutone four times and cruising to a 62-14 win in which Tigers quarterback Nash Nance was out after the first drive of the second half.

St. Scholastica rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final six and a half minutes to defeat Northwestern 28-24. It's the second consecutive week that the Saints have come back from a two-touchdown deficit to win.

Two MIAA games went to overtime. Albion blocked a Hope extra point attempt on the final play of regulation to force overtime, then did it again in the extra session to preserve a 37-36 win. Alma scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and added two two-point conversions to force overtime, but Trine prevailed in the second extra session as the Thunder intercepted Alma and Joel Lopshire kicked a 25-yard field goal to win 26-23.

Franklin drove 84 yards for a touchdown, completed a halfback pass for a two-point conversion, then held on as Manchester's attempt at a game-winning field goal fell short as the Grizzlies won 29-28. Illinois Wesleyan had to call on defensive back Tyrell Bolden to reprise the quarterback role he last played in 2012 and while he rushed for 137 yards and threw for 201, it was Carthage with the surprising road win, 20-10 at IWU in the teams' CCIW opener.

On a day they recognized legendary coach Lou Wacker, Emory and Henry had a throwback look to it as well, beating Randolph-Macon 38-28 to win their home opener and improve to 4-0. Marquis Barolle ran for 288 yards and Jordan Sims returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown as Texas Lutheran improved to 5-0 for the second season in a row, defeating Howard Payne 54-27.
