Alex Tanney played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys for a full half on national television and Kyle Miller turned a tipped ball into a touchdown for the Miami Dolphins in Sunday night's Hall of Fame Game.

The game, the traditional NFL preseason opener, takes place in Canton, Ohio, about a 30-minute drive from Miller's alma mater, Mount Union.

Tanney, a D3football.com All-American from Monmouth, was hit and fumbled on his first series but completed five of 11 passes for 58 yards on a night in which Cowboys No. 1 quarterback Tony Romo did not play. He threw to former Cal Lutheran wide receiver Eric Rogers twice but was unable to connect either time. The Cowboys won 24-20.

Miller, who was thrown to six times, caught three passes for 35 yards, including the final score of the game, a 5-yard pass the was deflected before he caught it in the end zone. Jason Trusnik, an Ohio Northern alumnus playing for Miami, recorded one solo tackle.

Rogers is in his first NFL camp, while Tanney was in the Chiefs camp in 2012 before missing the season on injured reserve. Miller played in one game for the Indianapolis Colts last season before being picked up by the Dolphins. Trusnik is in his third season with the Dolphins and his eighth season in the league since being named a two-time All-American with Ohio Northern.

In other news, former Mount Union receiver Chris Denton was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
