RPI athletic director Jim Knowlton announced the appointment of Bob Bodor as acting head football coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Bodor has been RPI’s defensive coordinator and is a 24-year veteran football coach, including six as head coach at Colorado College.
Bodor will replace Guido Falbo, who resigned to become the assistant head coach at Division II Alderson-Broaddus in West Virginia. Falbo replaced Tim Landis when Landis resigned in February, and Landis was on the job less than a year.
Bodor is the fourth person in 15 months to be RPI's head football coach. Colorado College was 15-42 under his tenure, peaking with a 5-5 season in 2006.
“We are very fortunate to have a seasoned veteran like Bob on staff already,” Knowlton said. “His familiarity with the Institute and our student-athletes, coupled with his previous experiences, provide our young men with strong opportunities for success both on and off the field. We are excited about Bob leading the team during the 2012 season.”
Rensselaer, which posted a 4-5 record in 2011, including 3-3 in the Liberty League, will still conduct a national search for a head football coach at the conclusion of the season.
Bodor was the head coach at Colorado College from 2003 until 2008, when the school disbanded the program. He was also the defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator for the Tigers.
Bodor spent the 2010 season as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach at Division II Colorado School of Mines before coming to Troy in April 2011. He has also coached at Albion, where he was the defensive coordinator for five years, and Hartwick, where he was the defensive coordinator for three seasons.
He has experience at the Division I-AA level at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia. He entered the college coaching ranks at Johns Hopkins in 1991.
A 1988 graduate of Denison with a degree in geology, Bodor and his wife, Bridget, reside in Brunswick, N.Y., with their two children, Bridget and Grayson.
