RPI scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and held on a first-and-goal situation on the last drive to come from behind and defeat Rochester, 28-24.
Down 11 heading into the fourth quarter, RPI quarterback Mike Hermann helped the Engineers close the gap when he ducked past multiple defenders on a 59-yard touchdown just 20 seconds into the quarter. A two-point conversion cut the lead to three. After a three-and-out by Rochester, Hermann struck again with a 41-yard bullet pass to Austin Caswell for a 28-24 lead with 3:22 left.
The Yellowjackets attempted three straight fade passes from Subick to senior tight end Thomas Norman in the right side of the end zone but none connected as RPI held on.
Case Western Reserve took advantage of an Allegheny fumble deep in its own territory and scored with 45 seconds left to defeat the Gators 17-10. Hampden-Sydney racked up 24 points in the third quarter and ensured there would be no fourth-quarter comeback for Catholic as the Tigers won 31-17. It was Catholic's first loss. Greg Cordivari was intercepted four times, one of which Sean Stewart returned 40 yards for a touchdown.
Monmouth beat St. Norbert 10-3 in a showdown between the two teams that have won the last eight MWC titles. Trey Yocum's 46-yard rushing touchdown gave the Scots the victory. Franklin beat Mount St. Joseph 35-23 to stay atop the HCAC standings. The Grizzlies play at Rose-Hulman next week. The Engineers are 2-0 in conference after beating Manchester 26-20.
North Park's hopes of ending its long CCIW losing streak came to a screeching halt on Saturday as Scottie Williams ran for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead Elmhurst to a 59-6 victory. Dickinson scored 21 unanswered points in the second half and rallied to get the Conestoga Wagon back from Franklin and Marshall, 31-24. Augsburg scored 35 unanswered points against Carleton to win 35-14.
Lycoming's defense scored twice and set up two more scores in beating Albright 35-13. The Lions turned the ball over five times. In a game that featured more than 1,000 yards of offense, a pair of defensive stands allowed Central to outlast Coe 38-35. It's Coe's first IIAC loss, meaning Dubuque is the sole unbeaten in the IIAC standings.
UW-Oshkosh racked up 551 yards of total offense and improved to 3-1, defeating UW-River Falls 42-7. Melikke Van Alstyne rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns to lead Framingham State to a 26-0 NEFC Bogan Division victory over Massachusetts Maritime. Macalester beat an MIAC team for the second time in a decade, as the Scots shut out Hamline 17-0. The Scots dropped out of the conference for football after the 2001 season.
In a game usually helps decide the NESCAC title, Trinity (Conn.) defended its home turf in a 20-13 win over Williams. The Bantams outrushed the Ephs 154-24 and have won 40 straight at home.
Presentation defeated Martin Luther 28-6 for the first win in the program's history. It's just the fourth game the Saints have played. Anna Maria remains without a win in the three-year history of the program after Gallaudet rallied and went on to win 48-40 in triple overtime. Gallaudet tied it up with 21 points in the fourth quarter. And Pacific didn't pick up its first win but it did score two points on this unusual play:
