Blaine Hawkins and Dallas McRae lead the D3football.com 2021 All-Region 5 team. Hawkins was named Region 5 Offensive Player of the Year, while McRae was named the Region 5 Defensive Player of the Year.

Central coach Jeff McMartin, who coached the Dutch to the national quarterfinals, is the Region 5 Coach of the Year. It’s his first selection as a D3football.com regional Coach of the Year.

NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 5 includes the American Rivers Conference, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the Midwest Conference and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

For McRae, it is the second consecutive season in which he has been named a regional Defensive Player of the Year, following recognition in the North Region in 2019. The senior defensive tackle from Crown Point, Indiana, recorded 19 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, while breaking up five passes and recording six quarterback hurries. Wheaton’s season finished in a last-second, second-round loss to Central. McRae had 44 tackles, 31 solo.

Hawkins, a senior from Ankeny, Iowa, finished the season with an NCAA all-divisions record 63 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions. He completed 70.7% of his passes, throwing for 4,475 yards, or 344 yards per game. Hawkins also ran for five touchdowns as Central reached the national quarterfinals, finishing 12-1.

The teams, selected in balloting by Region 5 sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 146 nominations by full Division III member schools. A total of 78 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 17, in D3football.com’s pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLVIII.
